Caribou Falls North Shore, Minnesota

According to the weather forecast, by the time I made it up to Caribou Falls it would be cloudy. Nope, sunny with occasion clouds popping in and out of my shooting time. It was the 4th of July and there were plenty of people hitting the hiking trails. I have been to Caribou Falls back in the 80's and I do not recall whether there were stairs leading down to the  base of the falls or not. This time there were stairs and a well maintained path. This is large waterfall in a very deep gorge, but it is worth the hike.

Overlooked Falls Porcupine Mountains Michigan

My next stop after Lake of the Clouds was Overlooked Falls in the Porcupine Mountains. I had always wanted to stop and see them but never had the time or the exact location, turns out they are really easy to find. Just downstream is Greenstone Falls, I'll get to them another time. The weather was doing what it had been doing over the past few days, not making up it's mind causing me more white balance problems. Although I enjoy fallen trees in my waterfalls, the twiggy branches don't work for me.

Bonanza Falls Ontonagon County Michigan

My final stop of the day was Bonanza Falls also known as Greenwood Falls. After having spent most of the day driving, standing in the rain or massive bugs, the blue skies and bug free environment was a nice treat at the end of the day. Bonanza Falls is an easy find being right on M-64 and a mile south of Silver City. What makes this an interesting waterfall is all of the diagonal rock creating really cool water drops. I was tired after a long day of driving and hiking so I messed up on quite a few series of shots by not turning my autofocus off during the shoot. I remembered for the next one.....

Lake of the Clouds-Ontonagan County Michigan

I have visited the Lake of the Clouds Park in the Porcupine Mountains before but between the wind and rain, the visit was cut short. I returned the next year to a warm and clear morning in June 2014. Between the blue ski and warm temps, it was a grand visit. As I spent my time there I noticed what I like to call "Wind Angels" in the lake surface. They are unpredictable to capture and you just had to set your camera up, shoot away and hope for the best. I plan on returning in the fall time in hopes of capturing the beautiful Autumn colors.
